Trick the emperor to cross the sea.
Interpretation:
Don't let your guard down
trying to anticipate everything.
Ordinary things around
do not arouse suspicion.
During the day you may not notice the danger
Which you will reveal in the dark.
It is necessary to resolutely enter into confrontation, but not to lose caution. To reveal everything means to hide everything.
Historical example:
One day, the emperor needed to transport an army of 300,000 people across the sea. But he was very afraid of swimming and could not decide on this mission. The cunning General Xue Rengui assured the other commanders that he would cope with this task.
The next day, a rich peasant offered to deliver food for the army and talk with the emperor. Delighted, the emperor went to his “house”. Ahead of him were thousands of well-arranged towels, covering the surface of the sea. Expensive curtains hung inside the tent, and carpets covered the floor. The Emperor and his courtiers sat down to drink wine.
After some time, the emperor heard the whistle of the wind and the crash of waves. Cups and lamps shook and swayed. The Emperor ordered the curtain to be opened.
"Where are we?" – he asked excitedly.
“The entire army is on the high seas, and we are heading towards Kogure,” the general explained.
The emperor's determination strengthened, since what he feared had already happened. Instead of seeing the crossing as something terrible, he began to see it as an opportunity for victory. Now he boldly moved towards the eastern shore.
